Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain :
So far the meaties from MMH have been the best. Over the last 3 years I've ordered them from MMH, Welp, Ideal, and Purely Poultry, and the results are ranked in that order. MMH's birds all survived the trip, none had leg problems or any other issues. Welp was good, too, and I'm expecting some from them in the next week or so. Ideal was ok, but I did have a couple that developed leg problems. PP's birds never really amounted to much, and after 12-16 weeks we put them in the freezer as cornish game hens.
We feed chick starter for the first week or two, then switch to broiler grower for the remainder. Once we switch to the broiler grower, we free-feed during the day, and take the food away at night. Our last batch of MMH birds were butchered right at 8 weeks, with 3.5-4# dressed out birds as the average size. They looked a LOT bigger than that on the hoof! LOL! Can't say what's happening with those little guys... you might ask 3D where he orders from... I'd be curious to know.
We have 5 cornish from Ideal right now... 4 weeks old and they went outside last thursday.
I believe he uses Ideal.
That's good to know about MMH, I ordered our meaties from them. Due in two weeks! They'll be staying at Stephanies house so last night we were over there getting their area ready. We're using cement mesh(wire) pannels to build a hoop house for them. I bought them at SBS in Palmer and they're 7'6"x20' long for $33.00. They do have a 6 inch square hole we will have to wrap chicken wire around, but they make a huge hoop house. It will be 20x14 when we are done.
