Owl problems. My neighbor found one in the coop after it had finished doff 3 hens. It's terrible depressing and frustrating but as WW said, it's time to break out the diversionary tactics. I free range mine for 5 hours a day but I know there is some risk involved. There are a lot of owls around here and we are a major raptor flyway. It can and will happen now and then but I am sorry Aimie. It's just tough to lose them. I had a hawk try to go through the coop door in the middle of the day. Paddington and Mr. T drove it off. That's one nice thing about grown roosters. They will defend the girls. Probably wouldn't have much luck against a horned owl though.
 
Ah, Dark Ages thinking. I never would have gotten that.
And WW I think some people do train chicks that age to drink that way but I have never tried it.
