Did you know that Meyer Hatchery sells a rare Marans collection?
"This rare mix includes any of the following extremely rare Marans:
Cuckoo Maran, Black Copper Maran, Blue Splash Maran, Golden Cuckoo Maran, White Maran."

St run $5.88 EA
Pullets $6.20 EA
Males $5.60 EA

I just now had the chance to look through their catalog, so it's new to me, lol. They aren't taking online orders though, so you can't even see what they have available.

Yea, I saw that. That would be a good idea for someone who has a lot more coop than I do.

I'm just not keen on hatchery chicks, unless its my meat birds. I'd much rather buy from someone
when you can see what your getting, egg color and parents are very important in most these breeds.

There are quite a few of us out here that have those particular marans, Tori, Sabrieta, Terrisa and I. We all have chicks in those breeds, you wouldnt have to
pay shipping and the price is about the same.

Oh I couldn't buy from a hatchery unless someone wanted to go in on it with me, I have limited coop space too. I only want a couple, and will gladly wait until one of you has them available.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy another Hovabator 1588 today.

We dont have the eggs to justify the Sportsman expense....but yet it
drives me batty with eggs laying around....LOL!

Do they sell them locally or will you order it online?
I bought mine from Cutlers a couple years ago because I couldn't find them locally.

I set mine up today, and I'm calibrating two hygrometers. I've read through most of the dry incubation thread and am curious what my fellow Alaskans run at, and then lockdown at?

my best hatch so far was between 35%-45% 1-18 Days then 65-75% 19-21.
But I have been doing alot of reading and there seems to be all kinds of info and different opinions out there, my house is about 20% RH most days, (so that is helping me a little bit) because I know what the humidity in the house is I can adjust the incubator better.

Thank you. Before they went into the bag for calibration, mine were reading 27 &28% sitting on the table.

I have only used this bator once, and while I used the hygrometers, I didn't know anything about calibration, and I just followed the directions that came with the bator. I had 13/24 hatch using local eggs. The ones that didn't hatch were developed, but never pipped.

Sometimes they take longer to hatch than others, some breeds are that way also.
Did you do eggtopsies to see when they died?

I open all my eggs that don't hatch or that I cull from the incubator. It is very informative to see where they stopped and can sometimes lead to learning how to fix a problem so that more survive.
