My latest hatch was delayed... low incubator temps, best I can figure. They finally started hatching this morning, and I'm watching 2 or 3 to see if they're going to make it. A couple pipped, and weren't quite "done"... blood welled in the pip, so I broke it open only enough for the chick to get some air. I didn't want them to drown! One of them is now out... the other I'm still waiting. Two chicks were not completely absorbed when they popped out, and one looks like someone picked on it and broke open the sack... I think it might be intestines...

It's just odd, because all the others are so strong and robust... *sigh* But I'm happy, because a couple of the orpingtons are splashes. I love love love the splashes, and have had terrible luck with the few I've hatched before. I have one splash rooster out in my GP, but a couple of weeks ago he got in a fight and got cut up on his face pretty bad. I brought him in til he healed, and put him back out. A few days later I found him with one side of his head swollen up and turning green from infection.

I almost lost him, but he's up and at 'em again.

I just hope one of these is a girl!!

We have 7 in the brooder, in the incubator 2 out and 5 have pipped. 9 eggs have not started yet, but they are not due til tomorrow, so we will give them a few more days!
They are soo cute.

That's a great hatch. What all do you have there, did you say?
My first BLRWs are due in 7 days. I will candle again Tuesday to see how many are still going. These are the ones that suffered with the USPS but 3-4 of them looked like maybe's on day 8 - The BCMs are due then too, from the folks that sent my first ones
- Wednesday is day 18.
