Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain :

I am sick to my stomach this morning...
Last night I was candling eggs that I had won on an auction... they are a week along and showing signs of growth. My husband was in the next room on the computer, and called me out to look at something. Guess who forgot to go back in and put the eggs back in the incubator?

The light was off in the room because I was candling, but I left the door open and I never do that. The 1502 beeps through its turning cycle, so I keep the door closed. I thought it was odd that the door was open this morning, but I've been so tired lately that I didn't think anything of it. Until now. I saw those eggs sitting there, and now I just want to cry. I put them in the incubator... they'be been out for less than 10 hours, max, in a room that is about 65°F. What do you think the chances are that they're OK?

Oh Tori, that's so awful!

I have asked a lot of questions about that though after so many power outages this year. ( One lasted for 17 hours but I had a generator) A couple of people told me that inadvertently the power to their incubators had been out about as long as yours was. One of them had the bator in a 65 degree room and the bator got unplugged overnight. She still got about 50% to hatch. I think you have a chance. I unplugged my lavs by mistake for goodness knows how long (5 hrs anyway) and a third of those hatched which is about as many as I would have probably gotten anyway so you just never know. Don't give up yet!

Eggs are amazingly durable, regardless of what we put them through.....
I will pray that you found them in time, and you could candle them again, and see if they are still moving...

Oh no Tori!!!!

I'll certainly send you good hatching vibes!

I met with Jess this morning, what a doll!!!!!

They ended up with 20 but they were ok with that.

PS: They didnt know what a hydrometer was........Next time you send me someone, make sure they're educated first! (giggle)

I didn't realize!! OMG, too funny... did you tell them to dry hatch? Jess is such a sweetheart... describe him for me? I had some of the most wonderful conversations with him via email. Laughed my butt off, I tell you!

I'm so glad it worked out, and I will be

for them. I'm much more confident of your eggs than mine at the moment!

I will give the poor little boogers a few days to warm up again, and see if there are any changes. I'll give them another week and then I'll know. *sigh*

Envision, George Carlin (without the potty mouth) reincarnated as an old time farmer, driving a silver Lumina. LOVELY man. I told them to hang in there around 30% for humidity for the first 18 days, and I wasn't sure (I did tell him that you were
experimenting with eggs right now) what to have them at for the last 3, but that I had mine around 50-60% but that it was a hit and miss with them (two awesome hatches and one bad). I told him to get a hold of you to see if it worked and he said he would. They won't be setting them until tomorrow so we have plenty of time to write them if needed for further instruction.
He was headed right to Walmart for a hydrometer/thermometer. He has a LG so I told him it was a VERY important tool that will increase his odds for the hatch.

Tell me about it, I feel like I drank two cases of beer all on my own. I was woke up at 2am by
a dog that needed to go poo and I couldn't get back to sleep. Then again at 4 when hubby got up and again at 6am when
hubbies phone rang. That was the last straw for me. I had to get up at 7:30 to take him into Anchorage anyhow.....

I tried to take a nap, Fedex decided to ring the doorbell and in my house that's a BIG no-no...(3 dogs).......So once again.....

I'm AWAKE......

Deb I have those days all the time. Joe left on Wednesday, and on Friday when I went to take the kids to school, my left rear tire was totally flat, it had a split in the sidewall. So instead of the nice plan free day I had in mind, I had to get tires put on my car.
It took up most of the day.

I broke down and candled last night day 11. All of your eggs have lots of veining, and movement inside. I haven't added any water to the incubator because it stays at 40% + or - a percent or two according to my three hygrometers, with empty trays.

Doesn't it figure that every time you have to do an early morning run, everything in the world conspires to keep you awake half the night?

The sun is trying to shine BUT - it's still raining so this project is going to finish up in the rain.......rats......

I am trying my darnedest to stay awake. If I head to bed now I'll be up at 2am again....I tell you, never get old!

That is fantastic Aimee! I'm still crossing my fingers and toes for you and Tori.

Jim and I did a lot of thinking today....Right now we have
2 buff sex links, 2 black sex links and a old BO in with our Coppers. This fall that wont be the case when all these babies grow up. We'll have the Dellies,
the BCMs and the ornamental polish running around. Now hypothetically speaking, if I get a huge order of Dellie eggs or someone wanting chicks, and my BCMs stop laying. or everything is headed for the incubator...what are
we going to do for eating eggs!
We had thought about hatching out some of the sex link eggs for ourselves, but having a BCM sire that might mess us up if our mixes that we hatch and keep
end up laying dark eggs too! lol.....hummmm......do I need to go looking more chicks/eggs? hehehe

But on the other hand, I had been thinking about dispersing my BCM flock and getting........

I just think I need to wait a bit though when the price comes down a bit.......
