Albino Coturnix

I was wondering how common , or unusual albino Coturnix quail are. I got two from eggs i bought, but they both died. Later i got more from eggs hatched from birds i hatched from that original dozen of eggs i bought. Also in that group i got silvers and A and M patterned birds. Anyone else have these?

This has been studied of course, but nothing really indicates how common it is. Does your bird have red eyes? Do you know if the first were male or female? It's possibly sex linked.

I hatched some of these. The breeder I bought the eggs from gave me a mix of colours. Not as easy to sex unless you actually see them doing the Male call I found.

Those have a recessive gene Gen most likely will produce regular colored quail in the future. Just simple genetics that recessive genes come out from time to time. Happens in all living things. I have read studies posted by Texas A&M where they state that there are no true albino quail. I doubt that seriously. If you get one with red eyes that is a true albino I would love to see a picture. I have yet to see one that was not doctored or just red eye from a flash

The first ones, i know one was a female because she laid a few eggs. The other one died in a freak accident, not sure if it was a hen or roo. Yes, they have red eyes. I have hens in the current group since i am starting to get a few eggs from them.

I just posted a picture of one. And no, i have no idea how you would doctor a picture.

My understanding of the A+M line is they were trying to breed to all-white, but couldn't achieve that.

Ive had several all white birds, but the brown dot on the head won't breed out.

Well these have no color but white on all of them.
