I heard today that astronomers have decided that there is 3x as many stars in the Universe as they originally thought. How they come up with that info is a mystery to me. Sounds like an awful lot of speculation.

If each star is a sun, that makes for a lot of planets. If there are that many planets then there has to be a number of them capable of supporting life. If you believe in a supernatural entity that created the Universe then why would you possibly think that we are the only planet that this supernatural entity created with life on it. It just isn't logical to think that.

I believe that life evolved on Earth.. and it surely can evolve on other plantes also. But they will evolve with what life THAT planet can sustain.
Maybe humans cant live on it..but who knows what kind of life forms evolution can create on other planets??
Just think about all the new creatures they have been discovering in the deep depths of the ocean recently.... how they evolved to survive in THAT climate... no eyes..transparent skin.. creepy crawly things.

etc...
Yup..i believe that there can be other life forms on other planets. Science/evolution has already proved that its possible. IMO

It is a big place out there! What I find most interesting, is we are finding positive indicators for life right in our own solar system... (A tiny spec of the Milkyway, let alone the universe!)

Yes It could be anything beyond our wildest imagination as stated just look at the diversity we have here on earth!.. However, As far as we know the building blocks of the universe are the same elements... You have sun/stars with objects..ie planets stuck in orbit, those planets have moons orbiting them. Same elements make them up no matter where they are.. Just different proportions and different temperatures.. Really not that different than here..

If there are a 100 thousand million stars/suns just in the milky way alone, and millions and million of galaxies like the milky way in the universe... Well that is a real big number..

Our star (the sun) is nothing real special as far as stars go, we know one planet has life, and maybe mars did and maybe a moon of Saturn does, and the possibility of some of jupiter's moons...

Just here in our solar system.....WOW

I personally am confident the universe is teeming with life in many forms.. it is just logical to me..

Have you ever tried to count the amount of birds in a flock? It's how birders come up with numbers that they can send in to journals and other places. They count how many birds are in a measurement, like a foot, and then multiply by the amount of that measurement. Gives them a rough estimate. Someone told me they do something pretty similar for stars, but that was a long time ago when I visited Houston.

I like Stephen Hawking's view: if a life form chooses to come here, it will probably be looking for food, which could be us. I would think there is most likely life out there. Not anxious to meet them.

That's what I assumed they do. The problem is that you need to see how big the flock is to do that. Scientist have no clue how big the Universe is, so what do they use as a measuring stick.

I did read that they found squirrels on Titan.

Imp-Boyd, time to fess up. Just what are you?
