I talk to my birds. A lot.
I also talk to other creatures... a lot. Titmice at the feeder? I talk to them. Crows flying overhead? I'll say a "thank you" for harassing the hawks. Spider on my wall? Say a little "hello." Stinkbug on my desk? I will probably name it and talk a little bit to it before completely forgetting all about it for a week.
I also sometimes talk to plants. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to step on you," or, "Poor thing, you're all wilted."
This isn't that weird, considering that I talk to our woodstove, but yeah. I talk a lot to things that aren't human or even sentient.
Sistah! I once wanted to take a camera shot of a caterpillar ripping along down a bridge railing at a high clip. I asked him to please stop so I could get his picture, and he froze! I thanked him and took several shots and walked on. My SIL, who was with me, stayed and watched him a bit, then called me. She said he still hadn't moved. I went back, thanked him, told him I was done with him and he could carry on, and - he did! He just went ripping along on his merry way again. My SIL sure gave me the side-eye after that!
