Ya know...Out of thirteen Black Sumatra, I have identified only three pullets...I'm hoping I'm just missing some as they move around and I look at their neck feathers, but that's all I'm seeing so far... 😑

I’ve heard Cemanis are good flyers so keep that in mind, I didn’t even know about them until the roo from the small flock I was watching flew the fence and got eaten by a fox, I incubated all the eggs he might have fertilized now I have 8 half’s, three orps that turned out almost all black and 5 that look like their barred rock mom. I really want Ayam Cemanis now.. but their poor egg laying kinda stops me from ordering any. All of these chicks mommas are great layers, it would be awesome to create Ayams that lay well
Why not cross them with something like a Black Australorp, maybe you can improve the egg laying?

My AC cross girls have the most beautiful neck feathers that look pointed, but they’re definitely girls. Fingers crossed for you.

My girls are barred rock cross AC and two of the three are laying daily (small eggs) and one has only layed two huge eggs in the past two weeks, so the good laying has apparently passed on to two hens and the lack of laying has passed to one
