Wow, cool. We've talked about breeding some of our cows to Gelbviehs. Have your considered importing genetics? We did that last year when we wanted to breed some of our cows to Montebeliards.
I looked up some Registered Gelbvieh sires that I could buy a straw from and I found an awesome bull I would like to AI her to.
http://bullbarn.com/gelbepd.asp?ID=433 I love 08W CED, BW, CW, YW, and MK. Those are what I usually look at in EPD. I love seeing a negative number for BW, and a number near 30 for MK. He's got some amazing genes. You can also find my Granite's Promise and our Gelbvieh bulls dad and grandfather from the dad. Sadly the Gelbvieh bull and Granite share the same dad so I won't breed them together. We had to breed her to our Balancer bull. He's not 50% Gelbvieh and 50 Black Angus, He's more on the Gelbvieh side but not enough to be a Gelbvieh. To be registered as a PB Gelbvieh they must contain at least 72% Gelbvieh. Post Rock Granite 200P2, and then MRCO New Direction 905. I think you should go on http://bullbarn.com/gelbprice.asp. They have some nice Gelbvieh sires. Since both Granite and Surprise are both halter broke it would be easy to use a straw on them compared to our other cattle.
Those are some nice sires. Here are the bulls we were looking at: http://genex.crinet.com/beef/index.php?action=BYBREED&Breed=Gelbvieh
Have you ever milked any of your cows? I've heard that they are good duel purpose cattle.
