People often advise against things that turn out wonderful. I'm still receiving unsolicited advice to move the laundry under the main roof. But it's so peaceful in the house with the tumbler and washer in the outhouse! I love it.Indeed I did get a generator after Sandy and yes - I have a well so no power = no water.
Everyone said I was nuts getting a generator after Sandy - it was a 100 year storm and all that.
But it is the best investment I ever made! It isn't whole house (just circuits that matter like the well pump and the freezers) but it is natural gas and switches on automatically. I love that thing and it gets way more use than you would imagine. Probably every month I lose power for one reason or another - usually only a few hours but enough to make me thankful.
In LA even people who had generators installed are struggling because they have cut off the gas supply to many areas for reasons of safety and I think rationing. Ugh!
