All my sweet birds are gone. What to do?

have said, it’s your property and as long as laws allow, shoot them.

I know it’s your responsibility to keep your animals safe but (in my opinion) you shouldn’t have to put an electric fence up because someone else can’t handle their own dogs.

I would at least give the owner(s) a warning, so next time the dogs come back...;)

I am so sorry! What an awful thing to happen! I think you should document everything, take pics of the dug holes and dead birds, everything! I would complain in writing to the police chief, city council, county health and safety, everyone I could think of. As long as you wrote the events down with dates etc it counts as a document. You are right to worry about that pack behavior in dogs.

Yes you need an electric fence! And I would suggest fencing aproned out at the surface or just under to deter digging. They've had their fun at your place and they'll be back.

Once again I'm so sorry!

Personally I've seen pack frenzied mentality in dogs blow right through a fence, like they don't even feel it. My sister's Rhodisian Ridgeback when nuts one day, chewed through a kennel wall and blew through an electric bull fence. But it would go to proving a point IF they came back and did it again and the owners complained. You did everything in your power.......

I highly doubt photos or video are truly needed. BTW If you come across any animal fur while cleaning up, save it in a baggie for your file. You witnessed them doing it, didn't grab your camera? No kidding! What did they do before cameras and videos, and game cams?

Just think. Victim #1 might already be out there waiting for #2 (you) to file and complain. Everyone seemed to already know where the trouble maker dogs came from....so they are habitual wanderers.

Ask the country to mail them the highlighted section pertaining to dogs at large and the destruction, injury, harassment, or worrying of livestock - and it's consequences.

That will serve as a warning to them. Ask county to send it registered mail so they have to sign for it.

Go into the country informed and use the above terminology. Try as hard as possible to keep your emotions in check as you do so, take all your notes and documentation, and they'll listen and act.

You have every reason to be apprehensive. When the pack mentality takes over dogs are capable of attacking anything or anyone. The two breeds that you mention most frequently have high prey drive. I would take pictures of the damaged coops, killed animals and document and date who you have spoken to. The next time they attack should be the last time they attack anything.

I am so sorry this happened to you, like everyone has said, check the laws on being able to protect your property, livestock etc with armed force.. These dogs have gotten the taste of blood, they know you have horses, they will be back, I lived in SC had a "neighbor" who's dogs would do the same thing, when it tore one of my mom's kittens apart in front of her, I went to his door again (wasn't the first time he'd attacked on our property) and told the owner the next time I caught the dog on our property, I'd shoot him and dump the body on his doorstep, truth be told, I also told him I'd rather shoot him.
