Well I think I have everything ready today to keep the flock cool and comfortable. I bought these cool misting systems from Amazon and have them installed, wading pools are all clean and refilled and a dozen 1-gallon waterers are filled with ice water and placed throughout the property. I even picked up a couple watermelons and cut them up and froze them.

It was so hot yesterday and at one point I had chickens, ducks, ducklings, cat, kittens and dog all seeking shelter under one farm buggy...and now today were are set for 100 degrees and this ozone action warning in effect.

I'm right with you as far as the heat goes. 97 degrees today without the heat index on top of that.

It sounds like your chooks are set for the day to stay cool!

100 degrees here in North Texas, for as far ahead as the forecast goes. I can't remember when it last rained, either. Even our heat tolerant bantams are panting and holding their wings out away from their bodies.

I've dragged our two tractors to the back of our yard where it's shaded, run a mister in the afternoons, change out water several times a day, etc. I'm drenched with sweat every time I come back in from checking on the chickens.

This is miserable. I don't even want to think about August.

Very warm temperatures for this part of Alabama, too. High 90's with nasty-high humidity and very little breeze. My chickens are doing alright....I make sure they have plenty of cool water, and the run has quite a number of cool, shady spots for them.
It's supposed to be worse next week...we might hit the dreaded 100F mark! AHH!

We caught a break for today...only 90/91 today!!!! That's sad when 90 sounds wonderfully refreshing. But it's only a one day window, as we head back up tomorrow, 97 again by Saturday.

It's funny, I actually spend a lot more time outside with my girls when it's really hot, because I feel kind of guilty hanging out in the house w/the AC. Hang in there chickens!!!

Same here, we caught a break and it will only be 90/91 without the heat index. The humidity is killer, though. Poor hens have been panting for weeks now.

The last winter with all the snow the northeast had was a killer, I'll take this heat for now without complaint. Talk to me again in a week or two though and my tune may change. I do feel sorry for my chickens but I think they're happier they're not confined to the small area I can shovel. :–)
