I've had mink take heads and rip throats out. So that would be my first guess from experience.Has anyone ever had a problem with something taking just the head of the chicken? A few days ago we found a chicken with It's head missing. The rest of the body was still there. Then yesterday the same thing happened to one of the turkeys. It's head was missing and the rest of the body was still there. The turkey was taken sometime between 1 and 4 in the afternoon.
I know some hawks are fully capable of taking chickens. They spy on mine occasionally, but fortunately my girls are good hiders, and my roo is too big. Some other people think it might be a hawk. I don't know about that though. There were feather trails leading into the woods and I didn't think a hawk would take something as big as a full grown chicken.
