Well, that depends on if you are asking Bret and Jermaine! Poor little New Zealand (fake) rockers that they are, always picked on by the big bad Australians

vegemite is disgusting

is not! just gotta eat it the right way LOL On toast with a heap of butter and a Smidge of vegemite

OR . . . I could eat toast with a heap of butter and not bother tainting it at all with the slightest trace of vegemite.

Someone who is familiar with vegemite, please be honest with me . . . is it true it's actually jarred tar? Or is it just pureed tractor tires?

neither!
Vegemite is a dark brown Australian food paste made from yeast extract

Vegemite is made from used brewers' yeast extract, a by-product of beer manufacturing, and various vegetable and spice additives. It is salty, slightly bitter, and umami or malty — similar to beef bouillon. The texture is smooth and sticky. It is not as intensely flavoured as British Marmite and it is less sweet than the New Zealand version of Marmite.

as an aussie I have read this and found it HYSTERICAL!!!!

When I think of Australian sterotypes, I think of
- g'day mate
- vegemite
- Crocodile Dundee

Really, this country is as diverse as you can get. We have everything! aincient rainforests (the daintree in QLD), beautiful white silica sand beaches (whitehaven beach), the outback and Ayers rock, the great ocean road.. and it's sooo big!
and I don't know if it's just me.... but we also seem to have a lot of immigrants!.... (not saying it'd a bad thing.. were just not all stereotypical 'aussies' anymore.....)

I've been around the world a dozen times, or maybe more,
I've seen the sights, I've had delights on every foreign shore,
But when my mates all ask me the place that I adore,
I tell them right away.

Give me a home among the gum trees.
With lots of plum trees.
A sheep or two, a kangaroo, a clothes line out the back,
Verandah out the front, and an old rocking chair.

hehehe

Got a good giggle out of some of these. I've lived in the States 20 years and it still never amazes me the questions I get asked.

A few of my favorites....

Q. Do you have grocery stores in Australia?
My answer: No there are 20+ million people all walking around with a boomerang hoping to catch dinner.

Q. Do you have newspapers in Australia?
My answer : No we are all derived from convicts, the vast majority of which were illiterate.

I've also been asked if we have pet kangaroos and koalas. Or my favorite, someone tells me they knew someone from Australia who lived by the beach then look at me waiting for me to tell them the name of the person. Like I should know them personally. I don't have the heart to tell them that there is a LOT of beach in Australia. LOL
