all who are hatching quail

400
they all came from large eggs, but after 10 days one is a Tom Thumb!

Ducky 13 I thought I'd share this because its similar to the picture you shared, and is close to your size an function requirements. Just hatched a few cot quail, and built this two compartment coffee table and quail hutch combo. It has 1/2" hardware cloth, a poop tray for cleaning, and each of the two compartments are 2'x2'. The front of each side swings open and has secure latches. So does the top half on each side. The slight elevation from legs allows for some air flow, and provides some protection from mini predators, the poop tray creates a fairly secure barrier also. I also wired two ceramic bulb bases into it, for a heat lamp in each side. So far the quail love their home. Pictured above is the 95% finished hutch on the deck outside(although its inside at the moment), and unfinished hutch inside being used as an indoor coffee table(its easier to see the design in its unfinished state). I never build anything that isn't dual purpose or meets our needs exactly. Hope this helps you with your build.

My Coturnix quail chicks are two weeks old today and one of them is only two thirds the size of the rest. It's getting feathers slightly slower but pretty much caught up. Should he grow up OK? Is it normal to have a runt of the hatch?

I love that hutch. Thanks for the info and pictures. I already have a hutch ready for adult quail but using the two compartment would be great to use when you only need one side for older chicks and the other compartment for hatchlings(day-old)
