all who are hatching quail

OK
Good luck. You might have to watch out for it or the other birds might cull it for you. They pick on the smallest & weakest first.

You might be able to start a new mini version. Lol ;)

Thanks! It's weird because it started out the same size and just hasn't been growing very fast. Maybe I will get a new mini breed going! LOL

Just a suggestion for quail, don't add an open container of water for humidity, stick with sponges or clean wet washcloths. Baby quail are crazy bouncy. I had a cup of water in my incubator and one of them bounced in while I was at the store and drowned. I never had that problem with chickens or Ducklings hatching they seem to take longer to be mobile.

They didn't get in the reservoir , it got in a cup, I have plastic cups that I use when I am hatching to add humidity.most of my hatches lately had been chicken and duck not quail and lots of people had recommended using cups of water to add humidity.I had forgotten how tiny quail are and didn't compensate for the size . it was a stupid mistake but a very easy one to make . it had never happened to me before , so the possibility never occurred to me. It's a learning experience.

How much water do you add? I could just add that amount of water to a tall cup and shouldn't have any problems unless they learn to fly early. Putting on lockdown tonight.

It isn't the amount of water in the cup by itself. The depth of water will determine how long the water last but the surface area of the water determines how fast it can saturate the air. You'd only need it if your air is really dry & you couldn't get the humidity up.

Thanks. I am not sure how I will tell without a hygrometer, but I guess I will play it touch. I will just fill the reservoir and add a wet sponge. I am locking down on day 14, because I will be gone until late tomorrow evening.

I have 7 chicks right now. They are so skittish and most of them hatched in my hands! But they are so quick and bouncy. Running all over the place. They won't listen to me!!! I'm trying to get them to eat but they are so skittish all they want to do is run away!

I wouldn't have locked down early. I think a day late would have been safe then a day early. I'd still turn then at least one more time tonight as long as you don't see any pipped. Even with my incubator running hot I don't think I've had any pip earlier then 16 days.

If the window fogs up your good.
