So I'm playing disc golf with a couple buddies here in south east Texas. The course has a T box just off a small, duck weed covered lake. Right before I throw up comes three little ducks just a cheeping. There were no adult ducks around. We all thought they were cute, but whatever, we are tossing discs.

My throw ends lands next to the water. Not in mind you, but next to. The little ducks follow me to the disc. As I'm bending down to pick up my disc, I here and see thrashing from the water as a 4 foot alligator launches himself from the pond. Now, I'm a Christian and a grown man who like s to think himself an "Alpha Male" but, I kid you not, I squealed like a girl, dropped an F bomb, and wet myself just a little bit.

The alligator was not scared of me, nor interested in me, but was all into the little ducks. I kicked at him, (out of defense rather than aggression) and he reentered the water. The two college guys I was playing with had a good laugh, and we carried on with the game. Course layout predicated we continue walking down the pond's length and the little gator followed us the entire way, and finally came back out of the water after the ducklings. Well, I stomped and landed a few glancing blows that sent him/her back into the water. However, it still never left us.

I couldn't take it. So that's how I have three ducklings now.

Nice to meet you all, my name is Andy.

Hi, Andy,

Bless you for caring for the ducklings.

While we sort things out, they need fresh water, a relatively warm place, and food. How big are they? We can try to guess, but 70 to 75F would probably be fine. What is the air temperature where you are?

Moistened cat kibble (changed out after a few hours to prevent mold problems), chopped hard boiled eggs, finely chopped lettuce and a few mashed fresh peas (I thaw the frozen ones) will give them some nourishment initially.

Any idea of the breed? You may need to find a wildlife rehabilitator and let them care for the wee ones, though some choose to raise the ducklings.

Got any photo's?

Oh, and they are waterfowl. They drink, splash, swim, bathe, and snort water. All the time. Don't worry, we will help you manage that. If you have a few old towels those will do for bedding initially.

ill add some pictures tonight.

We are highs in the low 90s, lows in the mid 60s. They are about the size of a pigeon right now, and look maybe like mallard and a runner? Pics will help.

Wow, I'm glad you were there. I betcha the gator ate the mom who was probably trying to protect her babies. They sound like they might be about a month old. I hope to see photos, too!

Wow! What a rescue story! I'm so glad to hear you were able to save them.
