Almost lost a RIR Hen ........

to a raccoon abut a half hour ago. Was on our way to go feed the goats and the girls were raising a ruckus. SO was in front of me so he was first one to chicken run and saw the darn thing under the coop. I went in grabbed my shovel and went back behind the coop and saw my girl laying on the ground> I was so mad then and went and took the shovel because I saw her move then and brought the shovel down by the coop and she managed to get away and I got here and her buddies in the coop after about 15 min of try to convince them it was ok for them to go in.

My SO has his gun and rifle ready to use. We live in the country so what neighbors we have are not real close. It's a shame the girls have to be locked up during the daylight hours.

So glad you saved your hen!

I wonder what is going on with the racoons this time of year....they seem to be coming out earlier and are meaner than ever, if that is even possible.

I have no clue, but they are getting real brave coming into my garage and up the stairs on the landing to eat my cats food. I guess I'm going to have to keep the garage door closed and if my kitties that sleep in the garage at night want out the next morning let them out the back door at the top of the landing.
I checked on my girls after getting the goats taken care of for the night and they were all doing good. They stay away from the door.
