Laree bought my Speckled Sussex (hatched from bargain's eggs) to use with her "aloha" roo.

Did she get any chicks from that crossing?

I think she also used some splash ameraucanas that she hatched from my eggs? Were those used?

I have some of these birds too when I get back home I will take pictures of my youngin's....they are not quite to laying yet.....

Wow! I just love that photo, thanks so much! Oooh, those Swedish Flower babies are just gorgeous! I appreciate the tip on the leg color, too. I'll be eagerly looking forward to seeing photos of your imported flock as they grow. How big are the Swedish Flower hens when all grown up? Currently these are a bit bigger than Banty size, but definately not large. Size is pretty similar to the Exchequer Leghorns that I used to have - although if there is any Exchequer in them, it's just a trace, at most 1/8th. I loved the Exchequer Leghorn pattern with the extensive white mottling, but the black color has been almost impossible to get rid of, so I had to quit using them in the project.

Laree brought some Sussex cross eggs over, yep, but I was going to hold off on hatching new stuff until I can save up and do one BIG batch - most of these hens are just on the verge of laying, but haven't actually started yet. Right now I'm only getting one or two eggs per day because only Cloudy and Cleo are laying. Everybody else - the oldest hens will turn six months old sometime in October, and with the heat out here, (STILL - it's going to be 105 in Phoenix today!) even the Buff Rock hens, who SHOULD be laying, haven't started yet. Sigh!!! I want to get some of those Sussex cross eggs, plus she's running the roo I gave her with a Buff Orp hen. Anyway, the eggs she sent me, I added them to a shipment to someone on here, since my girls are laying so slow - here's hoping some will hatch and I'll have a new "helper" soon?

In October or November when the hens finally really start to lay, I'll start hatching like crazy! But now that I'm vaccinating everybody, I'm trying to do only "big" batches. I have a friend who is a nurse, she helps me vaccinate, but I don't want to bother her, having her come over every week for three chicks at a time, LOL. If the eggs really start rolling in, I will look into buying that Genesis incubator I've been eyeing, and run two 'bators full of eggs at once - start selling live chicks locally, maybe even look into how to ship live chicks out?

But counting my chicks before they hatch! Right now just waiting for the girls to start laying . . . and waiting . . . . and waiting . . .

Sommer, those are some beautiful chickens. I'm still planning on doing some of these myself. My chickens have just started laying I now have a total of 3 that are laying. It will most likely be sprng next year before I start hatching any out, and I still need to locate a speckled rooster to put over my EE hens.
