We had 4 roos and 21 hens. We separated out the two mean and rough roos and one mean hen today in prep for giving to a friend to put in their freezer. It's amazing how much happier the remaining chickens are. The lame hen (she's a pet... and she lays well... just won't keep her eggs for babies) and the one other one nearest the bottom of the pecking order actually seem to be enjoying themselves today. Our two remaining roos are gentle with the (chicken) ladies and gentle with me and my granddaughter. Now we also have a ratio of 10:1 - much healthier all around. 22 chickens is still plenty for a small chicken stampede
