Altering my terrible TS coop.

What are you leaving open for ventilation?

I know its hard to explain and see in the video. The end that I still have to cover...only covering the rectangular area. The triangle at the top has the roof extended. I'll be attaching plexiglass to the edge of that roof to keep rain out but allow air through, hubby calls it a baffle. By using plexiglas it will double as a window for light. At the other end there is a sliding window. Above that I want to cut some holes to do the same thing with plexiglas. I thought about leaving the sliding window open and including that as the vent here but its just a bit too low so I think it would only be a draft. There is the original vent above the wall that has the original pop door to the henhouse area. For warm weather I'm contemplating a flip up plexiglas window in the wall to the right of the double stable door.

Oh, and son in law says he can add a roof vent if needed.

So on the piece that is triangle--your not covering the bottom half? And your drilling holes in the Plexiglass on the top part? I have to watch the rain here--so far it does not get in at that area, but I can see how it might be possible.

I have the same coop. I just covered the bottom and left the triangle area open (with the hardware cloth) for ventilation.

I have the same concerns with the little window as a vent, but it is slightly higher then the chickens.

I took some pics and a video of my flock and the coop and run changes. We've moved the coop to a better position although it still needs to push back further to the fence. It was getting dark so we had to wait for that. Now it's raining. Probably get it done this weekend. View attachment 1537329

The triangle is at the top formed by the roof. Below that it is vertically rectangular. I am covering the rectangular area below the triangle. It will be a solid wall just like the other areas that I covered.
As for the triangle at the top...no I'm not putting holes in the plexiglass. The roof sticks out several inches from the triangle portion of the wall, which the wall is made of hardware cloth, making a bit of an overhang. I will attach a solid piece of plexiglass to the roof edge which will make it hang down in front of the triangle wall portion but not touch the triangle wall portion. There will be a gap of several inches between the plexiglass and the triangle wall area. Air inside will be able to travel up the solid wall at the bottom, and flow through the hardwarecloth wall escaping to the outside. The plexiglass will prevent rain entering the hardware cloth.

Oh, and the little window that I think will be a draft, well, I installed a higher roost. It definitely would be a draft. Someday I will be building a walk in sized coop. This is just temporary. I want ventlation to be as high above them as I can.

I'm right there with you with the building of a coop. We will ending up doing that together too..lol

That's really cool. We need to keep posting when we do it so we can compare and learn from each other.

Son in law finishing up a bit more of the terrible coop alterations. Trim around the base to sesl out drafts. End wall put in place. Plexiglass window and plexiglas baffle for ventilation.
