Do what's right for you! If paring down the internet pulls a bit is what you need, then do that. How did we all survive before BYC, facebook, google, Twitter, Myspace, etc.?

DBF and I are recovered World of Warcraft addicts. We used to play for hours & hours & hours. We quit last summer and yes, it has meant that some friendships - with people we know in real life - have slipped. It's also forced us to focus on the friendships that are most important: each other, our pets, our family. We don't regret our decision, even though we sometimes miss the 10-hour sessions of staring at a computer screen running a little character through weird world and killing monsters.

My brother is an online game addict. It used to be Everquest, now I believe it is WofW. And if he's not online, he's cycling. I think his wife sees very little of him, actually.

I think I go back and forth with the internet. It becomes a crutch, of sorts, to destract me from issues at home (like having 3 toddlers, living in the boonies, not having many RW friends around). I'm getting better about turning the dang thing off... it is certainly worse for me than TV, but I like that, too

I am moving back to the city this summer. Our family will have a rebirthing of sorts, so I need to focus on that, as well. I think my RW life should pick up more then... in fact I'm counting on it!

Thanks to all who responded here. I really appreciate the support the past week or so. You are all really terrific online friends

I know exactly what you mean- I made VERY close friends on a chat group, been there for years, super active, I think I was a big part of what made that board what it is today as cocky as that sounds I put alot of effort into keeping it active and friendly. But there was just ONE person, a moderator, who was so rude and nasty. I never said anything, just kept my mouth shut, although I left a few times because of this person. Then for a few months I started getting PM's from many members who had the same concerns i did- they asked what they'd done to anger her, why she hated them, why she was so mean. A few people left the board, many took breaks like I did, trying to cool off, finally I had enough and went to the owner but they refused to take action, told me to go directly to the problem member, accused me of lying because I wouldn't give up the names of the complaintants and told me to grow up. So I went to the member and of course she was her usual self and we got into a major fight. They continued to preassure me to give up the members who had come to me so I asked them all for permission to give their names to the admin, only 2 out of about 15 agreed, either they asked to be left out of it or they never replied or had already left the board. Me and the 2 who stepped forward were attacked more, I was temporarily suspended because I got mouthy in public forum (which I admittedly deserved LOL) but bottom line, I realized that these 'friends' were just internet people who's company I enjoyed. I do speak with a handful ont he phone and meet with some in RL on occassion, I would consider them true friends, but I was SHOCKED how many turned on me, een ones who had mentioned disliking the member I took a stand against suddenly didn't know what i was talking about- bunch of spineless complainers! I felt totally betrayed and felt like leaving the net, but eventually you realize there are jerks and differences of opinion no matter where you go. Just be true to yourself, let people take you as you are, your true light will shine through and don't worry about 'degree's' of friendship, just enjoy the people you meet and let them enjoy you!!! and most of all, NOTHING is worth drama, just let things go, there's no reason to get upset online, trust me :p

Enough already, Chicken Coop. I've posted the rules which are listed above more than once for you. I suggest you read them and stop posting for awhile.
