Am I being cheap or frugal?

I think you are being smart!! We have done similar $ saving things. Besides it sounds like your son would love it.

Every year on our Anniversary we take a short 2 day trip to a cabin resort in the mountains. (This is $ it takes us all year to save, so we spend it wisely) They have a restaurant and everything right there. We eat one nice meal there where we splurge. However the rest of the weekend we share wine and snacks that we brought from home. Our cabin has a microwave and refrigerator so we also can heat up our leftovers from our fancy dinner. They also serve a free breakfast.

Frugal. Tell mom if she feels strongly about it she could maybe suck it up and buy you gift cards at some of the local restaurants.

Thank you soooooo much! I hate spending the money on food when I can spend it on something my son might need instead. My parents are sweet but dont understand why I like to cook things myself and why I try to cut corners were ever I can (I like the more self sufficent lifestyle, they already call me the crazy chicken lady). You guys always make me feel good.

When I was little, we were on a trip somewhere and my dad mentioned stopping to eat..

I said, "Oooh, where are we eating?"

My dad said "It's called 'The Chevy Van.'"

I was like "Oh.. Where's that?"

He just kinda looked at me like

...oh, right...I'm sitting in it, aren't I.

More balogna and cheese, huh? Bummer.

My FIL calls me the crazy chicken lady too! Wear the title proudly, I do! My MIL is always in awe of all the $ saving things I do. They have never had any $ worries so somtimes they think the things we do are a little nuts! But hey, it keeps us from asking to borrow $ from them!

Frugal!! DH and I took the crock pot with us on our honeymoon.

Best idea ever!!

We went out to dinner once that whole week. We tossed whatever in the morning and when we came back that evening, dinner was ready! Plus, your DS gets to eat out all the time, so he's gonna LOVE the crock pot dinners!!
