Ok I haven't been saying anything until now. My friends decided that they were going to have like a chicken farm at their place over the spring. Over the summer they have built a wire/plastic/wooden pen outback on asphalt. It's a very nice pen that they built and very secure. The problem is they clean it maybe....every 1-3 months. They put 3 bales of straw down for the flooring. They have metal roosting poles for them to roost on. They have no nestboxes. They have the wrong type of feeders. WAY to many roosters in there with the pullets/older chicks. The pen isn't heated for the winter. The main problem is he is running out of money to feed the 30 something chickens they have in the pen together. Not to brag or anything but I have helped them clean the whole thing( which is bad on the back with wet moldy straw), water, and when he has food feed them. Theres about atleast 6-9 pullets in there that are laying but their so skinny they can't lay. Every 2-3 weeks they might get an egg even in the summer. With all this help I do daily I asked to buy 1 of their pullets for $30-40 because she is so skinny. He said "No we need her for our breeding and egg production thingy." I know he could of gotten atleast 2 bags of feed out of that money. I do everything I can to help him out but it seems like I can't do anything to help the chickens. I know when winter hits he will loose some if not all..but I'm powerless to do anything. What should I do? I'm so confused...
Sorry for the long rant but I cleaned out their whole cage today and my back hurts from caring, scraping poop off asphalt, and bagging it. It's hurting me because I can't do anything to help them...
