So Thursday, I found my first two eggs on the floor of the run! I excited, ran in, told everyone I knew. :)
Now its Tuesday, 5 days, and I have gotten NOTHING else. I am glad I took a picture, or I would think I was crazy that the first two happened.
I don't know for sure that it was two different hens, I thought it was at first but now I could have missed one if it happened the day before. I get sad every time I check the coop and they have nothing for me. I haven't let them free range much at all without me watching like a hawk because I don't want to miss an egg! I know I have read that it takes a while for them to get regular, but is this longer than normal?! I'm going crazy :)

I am half excited about these guys laying, half frustrated. I want them to lay AGAIN. :).
I did put some golf balls in the nesting boxes right after I found the eggs on the ground. I hope they try them out SOON! Not gonna lie though, I wouldn't be all that upset about a egg on the ground. :)

Two of my gals began laying about 1 1/2 weeks ago. They march up to the nest boxes every morning and leave an egg. -have gotten one per day from both which is shocking. The third gal, same age, same breed, and purchased at the same time still hasn't layed an egg yet. She doesn't seem interested at all in making the daily pilgrimage to the nest boxes. I figure that she'll lay when she is good and ready. I'd venture to guess that yours will do the same. -completely normal, and one day you'll go out to find a pile of eggs......just give 'em some time, and they'll do what they do.

One of my hens was a hider for a while. Several times I thought I got no egg and I would search all in the bedding and everywhere. I thought maybe I had a snake. She was like a magician and would make them disappear and they would turn up later (who knows how MUCH later) looking dirty and old, unlike the shiny clean ones I would collect daily. I still don't know where on earth she could have hid them for me to not be able to find them in the coop!!!

I want more eggs soooooooo bad! I am a little frustrated with these girls.
I did decide yesterday they must be hiding them, so I did a total coop/run clean out. The chickens free ranged yesterday afternoon and I cleaned out everything. Not one sign of any eggs.
Today was one week since the first eggs and nothing else yet. I thought maybe if wouldn't be the next day but this seems like torture! :)

I live south of St. Louis and we have had an extremely hot and dry summer as alot of the US has had. I have 12 chickens, six are 18 months old and six I bought in May. We had been getting 5 or 6 eggs a day but for two months now we are lucky to get one egg a day. One of the older hens did go broody this summer and had to be pried out of the nesting box for about 2 months. Our egg production slowed down right after we introduced the newer chicks into the pen with the older chicks. I am hoping that now that the weather is breaking a little that the chickens will start laying eggs again soon. They are eating alot and not giving me anything back. Should I be worried?
