Am I dealing with early bumblefoot or not?

Interesting, very interesting. Its hard to tell what it is because I looked yesterday but only saw the odd stepping Sunday. We have had a warming but 2 weeks ago it was rather nippy, and we did have some drizzling. I got horse Epsom salt, is that the right stuff for a warm bathing? Thanks all for the info so far, its been most appreciated!

Yes that Epsom salts is fine to use. If you have Betadine, that would be fine to use on the feet after or leave them bare after drying them.

soak his foot in warm water with Epsom salt for a few min. to relieve his feet and clean off the scab. once you do this but a bit of antibacterial cream on the foot and wrap his foot up. but definitely keep monitoring it. it looks a lot like bumblefoot, but I am not sure
Lol guess I'm gonna find out one way or the other!

What kind of roost bar material are you using? You said you have sand as the litter inside the coop. Make sure you don't have any moisture in it. Do the Epsom water soaks and if you need to wrap his foot, use medical tape - the kind that sticks to its self! Good luck.

Thanks, got several rolls of that wrap today. Roost bar is wood, and the sand gets scooped daily and has stayed remarkably dry after I replaced and increased the amount in there.

Best practice for roosts is to use 2X4s with wide side up. This allows the chicks to sit on their feet to keep them warm. I use joist hangers but did not attach the bar because it makes it easier to clean or replace. Good luck.
