Am I in range of neighbouring chickens?

Discussion in 'Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures' started by cluckcluckluke, Dec 30, 2013.

  1. We have just got some new neighbors ( they are wonderful ) that have got about 6 chickens.
Their chickens are the classic backyard flock ( that's just fed and eggs collected with occasional clean outs, non of this 'papering' us BYCers do[IMG] ) the chickens are scruffy, scaley mites and not regularly wormed.
I have no problem with them, it's just I keep a high Biosecurity with my flock. I've had the mites, lice, worms and more before and I REALLY do NOT want to have to go through all that again.

I am just wondering if my flock can contract anything from this neighboring flock? They are about 250-300metres away and are over the other side of a hill.

I don't think I'd worry. There are two flocks on opposite sides of me. One about that far and another a little farther on the other side.
If your flock is healthy, they should be able to resist anything that comes via the airwaves.
  3. Great! Thanks heaps ChickenCanoe. Also with my other question. You sure know your stuff[IMG].
