Am I obsessed with my chickens or what?

I glanced out the window after a pleasant 30 minutes here on BYC and was startled to see one of my Black Australorp pullets loose and standing on the pond dam about 25 feet from the window. As I ran to get my coat I remembered that hawks don't all fly south for the winter, ah, ah, and my mind raced as I wondered how many got out of the pen and would one be missing?!
I rounded the house and saw my cat on the dam. No chicken in her mouth and I quickly scanned the shrubbery for chickens as I ran to the pen. All were safely inside and all 16 counted.
I mistook my black cat for an Australorp. [IMG]

Sounds like something I would do! [IMG]
We keep Killer Kitty in the house when the chickens are out and on more than one occasion she's turned up missing when the kids are visiting. I go out and guard the chickens while everyone else searches for her inside.
Kitty is terrified of other people, having been raised around only my SO and myself and she hides very well. So anyhow, I'll spend 3 hours outside with my chickens only to have Kitty magically re-appear in the house once the other people are gone. [IMG]

That's kinda funny about confusing your cat for a chicken!!! I could always use the excuse that I was not wearing my glasses. lol

You know I live in So. Cal. We have a million hawks in the area. I free range my hens and the hawks have never gone after them. I did have a few turkey vultures circling once, but someone told me they only eat dead stuff.

    Bright sunny day.
My brain just made the connection and sent me into over protective reactionary mode, lol.

I laughed when I read your thread title (and also the thread) [IMG]
But the first thing I thought was (to answer your title question) "Well, you're here on BYC with the rest of us, so there's your answer!" [IMG] [IMG]
