Peeps.... do you ship keets
roll.png

Sorry, I just now saw this!

I have not shipped any keets before, but I suppose I could (as long as it's within CA) depending on how many you want... I'm not sure what the regulations, restrictions or requirements are on shipping keets tho, so I'd have to get some info on what's needed to ship them (besides the obvious poultry box, lol)

Right now I'm only selling my Pearl Greys, Pied Pearl Greys, Royal Purples, and Whites. I do have a couple of large hatches coming up in the next few weeks, so I should have a good variety and quantity of those colors...

Contact me thru the email form link and we can see if this is doable

That bin of eggs blows my mind... I can't even imagine!

I love your nesting box set up, what a great idea!!!

How do you like your sportsman incubator? I'm considering one for next year... pricey, but if they work great, I want one. With just 16 Hens laying for me I'm already doing a double layer of eggs on top of the turners in my 3 table top incubators and hand turning all the top eggs... and it's a PITA, lol.

My midget white turkeys are holding out. I get maybe an egg a week from three hens. Right next door, boubon reds, at least four of six are laying, and most have been for weeks! If they don't get the message soon, they'll might get another message. Dum da DUM dumm DUUUUMMMMM!!!

This is what works for me...

Incubation Temp: 99.5, Humidity 45-50% for 23 days. Turn eggs every 6 hours. I candle them at day 10, then again on day 14, remove all clears or any that have blood rings. I also candle one more time right before lockdown.

Lockdown on the end of day 23 or morning of day 24. Stop turning, Temp: 98.5, humidity 65-70%, (but I've had it as high as 80% without it causing any problems for the keets). It goes up a little every time a wet keet hatches anyway, so you can take out a red plug to let in more fresh air and let the extra moisture out, but try to keep the humidity from dropping below 70%.

I usually take the dried and fluffed keets out several at a time, trying not to open the incubator too often. They can stay in there up to 48 hours, but a lot of my keets tend to start pecking toes of other newly hatched keets after 12 hours and I hear a lot of screaming going on... so I take the fluffed and dried keets out and get them into a warm brooder with starter crumbles to peck at and water dish (with marbles in it) with poultry electrolytes added.

My eggs usually hatch between day 24 and 27.

Good luck!

Found a fourth nest yesterday. Have ~ 55 eggs between all of them. I want a bator sooo bad but with a possible government shutdown who knows when I'll get one. How long are the nest "good for" ? No one is setting on any of them. Exciting times!!!!

Some say 10 days, some say 14... but over the years I've had a few of my Guinea Hens successfully brood clutches of 16-24 eggs in outdoor nests and almost all of them hatched (they laid all these eggs themselves, they weren't shared nests), so obviously the eggs can stay viable for a lot longer than suggested. I'm sure where the nests are located plays a key role in egg viability too... cool, shaded nests that are protected from high daytime temps and excessively cold temps at night probably have a higher viability rate than the nests that get a lot of sun and/or are exposed to the cold night time temps (which results in starting and stopping the development of the embryo, and usually kills the embryos)

Tonight when no one's on the nests I'd go mark all of the eggs with a sharpie marker or pencil (just a dot, small x or something) so you know which eggs are old and which are new. Write the date on your calendar, then if somebody goes broody on a nest of eggs you will know if they are sitting on any new(er) eggs or if the Hen is wasting her time

Hopefully they are laying their eggs in safe areas protected from predators... otherwise the Hen and the eggs are at risk of being a free meal for a hungry predator (unfortunately I am speaking from experience on this, sigh). If they aren't laying in safe places... then (if they were my Hens) I'd collect the eggs and break up the nests, for their safety

Didn't you say you had a broody... as in a broody chicken? If so, I'd stick as many eggs under her that will fit, lol
