I had to laugh thru the whole thread! Great reading! Thought mine was the "worst" kid there was.
Growing up, never wanted to have kids, no maternal instinct at all, not even with animals. Don't get me wrong, I do care for them, give them kisses and hugs and all the superficial ones. Not the kind of hard core, innate kind of thing. Wanted to be a nun. Well that never did happen. Went to college, babysat animals and my recently divorced sister's kids, her two boys.....she had a hard time managing them to be good while I can whip them up to be sweet little boys.
Well the table turned on us, I had my dd when I was 39 years old. That is old to be having kids, mind you and your body does not do things like a 20 year old does. I can not run as fast, get sick as often as my dd does but I still love her to pieces even she drove me up the wall. Man, what a learning curve for me! Doesn't babies every come with instructions?!
As an infant to three years old, she was WONDERFUL baby! Just wonderful, curious about everything about the world around her and oh she loves to eat different kinds of food, experimenting with things. Even she enjoyed playing in the soapy dishwater in the sink, having a ball. Just so precious! I am glad those three years were the best in our lives, even hubby was around but he worked alot so he did'nt see her much.
With other kids, nope, no loving dovey kind of thing like I have for my daughter. I am more tolerant of crying babies, like the low pitch, not the high pitched screams. Then after a five minute listening in, I have to leave or turn off my hearing aid. Kids in their all out temper tantrums, I can not handle it or walk away.
Kudos to people that CHOOSES not to have kids...that is NOT selfish! you are doing us a big favor if you were not ready to have kids. It is not meant to be at that time or never meant to be.
I love Bill Cosby and his Parenthood. Sometimes kids have so much hatred toward learning that they think that knowlege or their brain matter would ooze out of their ears!!!!! And the story line with repeating words sounded like machine guns...."Stop! Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop!" "No, no no no, nononononoNO!" The kid would go "huh?" Sometimes I have to watch his shows to "get me back to earth" and one day I can laugh about it!
Yep, I am selfish by not wanting any more kids. Yep, NO MORE!
