Amazing Geese tell me how yours made your day today!

First, a little backstory: I lost my 8-year-old imprinted goose in March this year. As much as I mourned her, my gander Jensen was devastated. Luckily, I was able to find him a Toulouse goose from last year, and they're now a happy couple.

My hopes of bonding with an adult goose were not high, but Magda has turned out to be very easy-going. We go for walks every day and sometimes visit other people's yards.

Last week, I was doing some work just outside my yard and as per usual, I let the geese follow me, so they could get to weed my neighbor's hedge. However, this time the geese apparently decided they were loooong overdue for a walk, and after a few honk-honk-honks to inform me of their decision, they just started walking down the road. I tried to call them back, but they were having none of it.

So I ran back to the house to get my keys and their treats. Then I heard Magda calling "Honkedihonk! Honkedihonk!" Usually, this is her call for when she's got lost from Jensen. I quickly locked my door, ready to follow them and find out what was wrong, when I saw Magda coming back through the gate, closely followed by Jensen. She actually came back for me! She was calling ME! She didn't want to go without me!

I felt so special being accepted by her as a member of her gaggle. It didn't just make my day; it made my entire month.
Geese are such pure souls❤️

My American Buff geese, Gussie and Golly, crack me up nearly every day.

They will walk up to a lone chicken and nip -- as long as the hen doesn't turn around. Then, the two big bullies run away as fast as they can.

Much as a cat will try to fit into the smallest possible box, the goose girls seem to delight in trying to bathe in tiny water dishes -- even though pools are available.

One of their favorite "hobbies" is bothering the runner ducks. My runners generally walk in parade fashion, one by one. The geese will roust the resting ducks, creating a parade formation of 10 runners, and herd the ducks across the yard.

Also, for no apparent reason, Gussie and Golly will go from a complete rest to running at top speed down the driveway, flapping their wings and achieving "liftoff" for about three seconds.

I captured one of my favorite goose moments in a photo. I'd been cleaning coops and had to come into the house. I came out to find Gussie running around with one of my yellow cleaning gloves in her mouth. Clearly, I wasn't doing my job well enough, she may have intended to replace me, and she was extremely reluctant to give back the glove.

Geese are great entertainment!
My family has 3 American Buff geese that are very similar. We also love when they run at top speed down our driveway, for no apparent reason, flapping their wings!

Mine love to run the driveway and get a little lift. I call it playing airplane.

This time of year my 2 geese are pleasant to be around I can even rub the top of my ganders head. lol but come Dec I can already see a difference in behavior with breeding season coming first of the year.

Im kinda late to the chat, but enjoyed reading you guys messages. As for me, I have three Toulouse geese and one Sebbie. The geese live with my runner ducks and they are definitely guardians of the flock, I watched them a couple of days ago and the geese all spotted a hawk in the sky above them. Once they saw the hawk they moved all the ducks, who were completely oblivious to what was going on, into the enclosure where the hawk couldn’t get them. :)

Good geese! :clap

My geese are thoroughly spoiled. I clean their coop out every morning. Water change comes next. When I pick up the pooper scooper again, they know they are going out of the yard, into the neighborhood for a walk. They get so excited, they streak across the yard while honking from excitement. Same thing at night. As sundown approaches, they start looking for us through the house windows. When they see us, they start screaming... because they want to go for their nighttime hunt for weeds in the front yard and other neighbors' yards. They will not let me touch them... but they won't let me get any further than 10-15 ft away without panicking...unless a small child goes by quickly on a skateboard or bicycle....mildly problematic.😂😂😂

Last week I had a sand delivery the man who delivered has been here many times so I asked him if he wanted to meet my crazy's. We walked back to the barn and the minit we turned the corner the loud greeting began. As we were talking he asked "are they always this noisy or is it because you are here". I very quietly said Inside voices and all 12 went to a soft chat. You should have seen his expression it was priceless. I love the loud greeting and the flight they take every time they see me its like there flock is complete. They look for the words GOOD JOB every time they take a wing dance. I love looking out the kitchen window to see them peeking around the corner of the barn looking for me. I guess Iv just gone to the birds.

I only have 2 and they have been with me for close to 15 yrs now, I cannot imagine walking outside and not being greeted by my geese. Oh yes they can be a pain in the Butt during breeding season. But watching the close bond they have with each other and how they know me as their keeper and friend means so much.
