Ameracauna hen or roo or too early to tell?

If you go over to the Ameraucana thread, they are currently arguing over the egg colour topic again :S
Even Easter Eggers can lay a really beautiful blue egg!

but wouldnt mind an ee here or there must bantams as well since thats all i raise)

Mine came from Paul Smiths birds.:)
Oh I wasn't trying to deny that your eggs were impure :gig I went back and it looks like that is how I was coming across. I was just trying to say that even EEs can lay eggs that pretty :) That's all.

I have 3 EE's in my flock.:). One lays a green egg, the other a blue. My last EE is only 4 months old and not laying. Owning EE's has sparked my interest in true Ameracuana's. I love the personality and I'm hoping my Ameracuana's act like my EE's! I'm starting with 4-H to show, then with the APA after we learn more about showing. The ones in the bator are blue and black with possibly splash. Out of 17, I'm hoping for 4-5 show quality. :)

I have purebred Ameraucana bantams :) They are so adorable, and just a few ounces bigger then D'Uccles. Their eggs look identical in colour to the egg I posted, but 1/3 of the size :p

Here is one of my black pullets.

Thanks Aoxa! Beautiful chickens and eggs! I'm thinking I might want to get some baby chicks from you sometime....??? I know you're in Canada, but am not sure of the area of Canada you're in...we travel to the Minnesota/Canada border at least once or twice a summer. I suppose I could maybe find some true ones here, but not sure and am pretty sure at this point that I wouldn't know enough to recognize or know the differences between the true Americanas and the EEs. I trust that yours are, so it might be worthwhile...

I'm in New Brunswick - which is close enough to Maine. My group was bred here, but the original stock came from the US. I am not sure who.. The parents were purchased and bred in Ontario, eggs were hatched and sold to my good friend Jamie Carson (APA judge) and he knew how much I wanted them, but it took him quite a while to let go of them to me.

Cloverleaf Farm has BBS Bantam Ameraucanas to die for...she is in Western Oregon and is an Ameraucana Club officer....PM her here on BYC.

These birds can be sexed easily most times by counting the 'rows' of "peas" in their combs.
A male will have 3 distinct rows of peas, and a female only 1 row.
I must admit I have had one or two that did a sex change on me after I had them pegged for what they were not...LOL
