but thanks for the tip. Ideal has them listed as AmerAucanas, not AmerIcanas. Hence the confusion.

My Ideal order, last fall, for "Ameraucanas" got me 8 very sweet and healthy Easter Eggers!

The closest one to a true Ameraucana is NillaPeas, who's a very pretty wheaten, except her legs are greenish slate, not blackish slate. All very purty, but most certainly EE's!

JustAChickenLittle&More :

Some people call them americana, some call them EE. So it depends who you ask! But Ideal is usually really good about using the correct names when shipping them out. So if thats what the store said, thats what they probably are.

Any pics?

Feedstores typically don't tell you the truth, I wouldn't make the mistake of taking their word. Feed stores only have EE's, and if they were Ameraucanas they'd have to say the color. Just like Orpingtons, etc. They couldn't just say "Orpingtons, these are Orpingtons" or something along those lines.

Those are EE's.

So is the term Ameraucana about appearance then? If you have a wheaten who has greenish slate not blackish slate, is that just a 'standard' issue? Do they lay blue eggs? Would they breed true?
It seems that unless you are concerned about showing birds and keeping to the standard, breed is a very amorphous thing.
Got a lot to think about. Thanks

May I correct YOU by saying that MPC now carries Blue Ameraucana hatching eggs, so don't go around and be rude like you know everything. What you said to knittycat is extremely offensive, this person is just new at this.

I am reporting your post, because what you said sickens me.

Knittycat, you are not stupid or crazy.

Thanks for sticking up for me PepsNick. Didn't hurt my feelings any. I've got a thick skin. I said what I said (with heavy sarcasm. Too bad there isn't a sarcasm font LOL) to call out a troll, not to indicate hurt feelings.

I'm new to the chicken thing and I'm fascinated by the Ameraucana since it's such a 'new' breed. I'm just trying to pin down what makes an ameraucana an ameraucana, vs an orpington being an orpington. I'll probably get into showing sometime down the line. So the whole thing is quite fun.

sometimes people say "are you crazy" when they are just talking.. not trying to offend anyone just talking. I do not think anyone needs to be reported. Sometimes we say things a little bit dramatic but I do not think that she was actually calling anyone crazy.... you know? all just friendly chit chat
