Ameracuna Vs EE

EE's seem to have such a negative connotation when being referred to...but I've been most pleased with mine. I've had Ameraucaunas from an expensive breeder and they didn't stand up. I'm getting Ameraucauna hatching eggs from different breeder lines.  If these turn out well...I won't be breeding pure until they prove themselves. They are mostly to breed across to my blue egg lines of EEs to keep as EEs.

I've noticed that as well. I have nothing but positive feelings about my EEs and I proudly call them that but it's definitely a name used as an insult by some breeders.

I do realize it must be annoying to have to constantly explain why your pure Ameraucanas are worth more than those other colored egg layers... especially when your audience isn't interested in showing or starting a breeding program but rather just wants a pretty, mixed-color egg basket. But the truth is that all breeders face that same challenge. Most consumers are content with hatchery quality for their backyard flock and don't want to deal with 50% cockerels.

I absolutely love the EE's we have. I'd just like to know for sure, What I'm getting, when I'm buying eggs or chicks. My daughter wants multiple breeds. She wants ones that look a certain way, or lay a certain color. So I'm crossing them off of the list as we get them.

That isn't a good thing, they should look vastly different even as chicks. I would assume both are Easter Eggers and you got taken by the hatchery by being overcharged for a run of the mill Easter Egger :/ sorry. I saw them too on the site and the picture they posted was an Ameracuna but luckily a friend of mine breeds them and said not to trust a hatchery and that NO hatchery sells true Ameracuna, only EE's. I saved the money to buy a hen from her later this summer and got an EE. I am also picking up 2 Cream Legbar pullets from her too. Getting them day one but the Ameracuna I am waiting until they are old enough to sex so I don't get a rooster.

Not necessarily. Blue EEs can look a lot like blue Ameraucanas except for leg color, perhaps build, perhaps egg color... I had a silver EE that laid blue eggs but her build was a bit blocky, her skin had a little yellow to it, and she had enough gold left to make her brassy. But she could have passed for a work in progress Ameraucana until you saw the varied chicks she was likely to produce.

And yes, Meyer has a small selection of actual Ameraucanas. They're a good bit more expensive.
