"Ameraucana experts-is this an Ameraucana?"

Yup, it's an EE. Nice looking one though.

Hey Jean, did you see the recent thread on ABC about a partridge Ameraucana? Did you notice the partridge look to this bird? Ironic huh?

God Bless,

Definitely an Easter Egger. There is so much confusion with Aracuana, ameracauna, and Easter Eggers, yet if one takes the time to read and get the info down they are very easy to identify. I just wished the hatcheries would quit misquoting what they are selling. That would go a long way in clearing up this nonsense.

Sonoran Silkie I noted the statement concerning the animals versus the babies and could not agree with you more. Praise Him. Paraclete2

this chicken that we thought/think is a "EE" is only laying blue eggs. what does this indicate in terms of breed?

Thanks again for all your help

Rosco

ps. i saw a post about diatomaceous earth and didin't respond. it is hazardous and is not organic and is only allowed for use in foods as a filtering agent. i suggest the health and safety database, HSDB, or NIOSH for those who'd like to know more about its inherent hazards when suspended in air (used). And, there are more claims to DE than there ever have been for "Snake Oil." don't believe anything you see advertised or written on the internet. believable information comes from research published in "refereed jounals" like the journal of oncology. just thought i'd add that after seeing misinformation about a substance that can be hazardous. okay, i said my peace.

If it lays a green or blue egg it is an easter egger. It's not an araucana or ameraucana.

You were already famous

It indicates nothing, in this case. Araucanas and Ameraucanas should only lay blue eggs - yet some lay green. An EE can lay ANY color egg. I have one that lays blue, one that lays a mint color, and two that lay green.

However, as previously stated, she does NOT meet the standard for either Araucanas or Ameraucanas.

Just wanted to stop by to say that I think you can expect eggs sooner than spring.

I have 4 EEs. They are 22 weeks old. As of now, 3 of them are laying. They all 3 started in the last week. My suggestion is be sure to have a light in the coop for part of the dark time, and make sure they are warm enough.

Looks like yours isn't too far behind them in age.

I'm not even certain that it's an EE. It could just be a simply barnyard X breed.

Since it doesn't appear to have green legs, doesn't have muffs or a beard, it could lay any colored egg.

I have an EE with muffs and a beard, pea comb, slate legs and she lays a cream colored/ tannish egg.

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong EE people. But I think if she lays a blue egg now she'll probably lay that same colored egg forever. Was that what you were asking Rosco?
