Somewhere way back when someone crossed an Am with something else to create the first EE. All further offspring off that are still EEs, even if another pure Am doens't come into the picture.

alrighty....though if she has birds she's showing....could an EE pass for a purebred at a poultry show? Enough to get caught up in this mix?

They are Easter Eggers. I was sold an Americauna. She is an Easter Egger. : ( She has slate legs...she lays tan eggs. So...she didn't get enough of the green gene I suppose.

You can have only Ameraucana's and breed some EE's just by mixing your colors in the pens.Any Ameraucana not meeting breed standard are EE's. Your not going to get either of the colors you have though if they only had black and blue so if they came from there they had some that were not bred true.Black hides many things that can show up later on..we have solid black EE's that I can't tell from my Ameraucana's at all but I know they are mixed color and will not breed true to color...but yes,I could show them as Ameraucana's and no one would know the difference....however,sold as EE's and never Ameraucana.Doesn't stop the new buyer from calling them pure and breeding "oops" so I do try to sell them to people that can't own roosters.
$5.00 a chick isn't a bad price for quality EE's usually quality Ameraucana's are even higher than that..unless your just having a lucky day

i have raised these for years and years the chicken shown in the picture is an americauna eater egger but mixed with black sexlink its not full breed

Unless you payed premium prices for the egg/chick, I wouldn't sweat it. They are beautiful birds!

If you plan on showing them....I would have some serious questions for your breeder.

Dutchgirl..unless you have bought from breeders that breed to the APA Breed Standard there is a good chance they are EE's so many people call EE's Ameraucana's and they are not Hatcheries and feed stores don't sell Ameraucana's even though they call them that. There is only 7 colors allowed plus lots of smaller details that make them Ameraucana's. If you don't know how to identify them chances are you don't have them they are not that readily available where the EE is real easy to get.

The breeder did finally get back to me, here's some of what she said...

"Those two are gorgeous! I didn't have any turn out to look like that, but you're right their body shape looks right on for pure Ameraucanas. My guess would be they are split Lavenders with some silver and gold leaking. It's an on going thing in the Lavender lines. If you bred them to a split roo, you should have a chance at getting some pure Lav babies and you could work on cleaning up the gold/silver leaking if you wanted. "
