Ameraucana Projects Thread

The cockerel is barred columbian (like a Delaware) and the other 2 pullets are white breasted with pattern on the back/wings/tail/neck. I haven't gotten it confirmed but I think that by breeding these together, I should get unbarred/impure barred cockerels and pullets and barred cockerels and pullets that when mated together will produce all silver barred autosexing chicks. Still not positive that I'm keeping them though...

I have some crele x ameraucana eggs in the incubator now.Not sure what the roosters mix is but he appears to be single barred.A couple of more weeks to go for hatch day.Auto sexing is a great idea.Everyone wants sexed pullets.

Here are some barred/cuckoo projects pics.Getting slate legs on pullets more than on cockerels.First pic is a 10 month old single barred cockerel with slate legs.Difficult to achive slate legs with sex linked barring.

First attempt at lemon cuckoo.Cuckoo project cock x buff ameraucana. Both LF.This should be a cockerel carrying silver and gold. Will most likely appear cockoo with brassiness or leakage. My first choice was to use lemon cuckoo orp.Only hatched 1 chick out of a order of eggs and it lived 1 day.Decided to use what I had.It will take several crosses back to buff to get good color.

Jerry I'm going to start planning for some projects for next year as all my birds are juveniles. I have both buff AM and lemon cuckoo orps that would be a place to start for cuckoo patterned AM?

Let me know if you have extra lemon cuckoo cockerels. It would be worth the trip for me.

If you crossed a 'lemon cuckoo' orpington rooster to buff ameraucana hens, all the offspring should be buff barred with beard/muff and a pea comb. Eggs would be more green than anything, and thanks to the sexlinked barring, they would have white legs, not slate. Just select the best colored/patterned offspring from that and either mate them together again or back to other buff ameraucanas. Just keep in mind that if you take one of the 'lemon cuckoo' hens and mate it to a buff rooster, you'll end up with the basic sexlinks (buff pullets and buff barred cockerels that would be impure for barring)

Just an FYI on why I put ' ' around 'lemon cuckoo' is because as someone that loves genetics, I hate that they call it lemon cuckoo when there is nothing lemon about it. Lemon makes many people think of citroen which is a diluter...
