I have a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana rooster over my EE hens at the moment.

My last hatch I got a bunch of blue based chicks most of my EE hens have a blue base. So this was expected. I also got a gold/black chipmunks chick again that was expected I also have 3 hens like that.
What I got that surprised me was a solid black chick. I have never had any black (solid) in my flock, but I did have one solid blue hen but she came out if a blue wheaten EE rooster and out of those Blue wheaten splash EE hens you get from the hatcheries. Never ever got black until this last hatch.

Your blue hen is the source of the black chick . Blue is a dominant dilution of black . It is BBS genetics .

Sorta thought that. I did wonder though if the rooster Blue Wheaten may have also carried black.

Black would have ruined his color . Making him a pseudo brown red at best . He would be crow winged if carrying black . That is to say black in the duck wing area .

Black or blue are out . Wheaten will give let some of the hen markings through but they are going to look kind of wheaten . White can be hiding about anything but likely black under the white . Buff will result in a mostly buff or wheaten look . So really for the colors you want a EE rooster is your best choice .

Breeding Easter Egger to Easter Egger is something I want to avoid. People go crazy with that and that is how you end up with "Easter Eggers" that lay cream, brown, etc.. I have Easter Egger hens every color under the sun. It seems unlikely that each of them were created by an Easter Egger rooster, but what do I know. Perhaps I will try to find a wheaten.

I have Easter Egger hens every color under the sun. It seems unlikely that each of them were created by an Easter Egger rooster, but what do I know. Perhaps I will try to find a wheaten.

I most if the time breed EE to EE and have never gotten one that lays all those different colors, only blue to shades of green.

I do however never hatch any brown eggs if I ever get any that lay brown/pinkish eggs. I also make sure that any rooster I obtain from outside my program comes from a green egg. I know that is no guarantee but almost assured of getting the blue/green layers.

The current rooster in with them is a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana. He was the only survivor from a shipment of eggs I bought here on BYC. I am going for more of a blue egg than I am currently getting. I do have a couple hens that lay an egg that is more blue than most.

The second draw of EEs is that they are colorful and come in a vast array of color types. My chicks may be blue egg layers, but they are also only blue or black. That defeats the purpose of hatching EEs. I might as well just stick with BBS Ams and be done with it.

I understand your frustrations. I hope something works out for you on your colors for your EE project.
