Ameraucana Projects Thread

Okay here is my Red project.
I'm wanting to have the shape of the Ameraucana/Easter Egger. I'd like to improve on the size of the bird (that will come later). Haven't totally decided if it should be blue/green eggs or brown.

First cross: This rooster (I called him a Blue-Tailed Red).

Crossed to some Production Red hens. Just your everyday hatchery reds.

This is two of the offspring:




I have another 4 also, but they're not the type I'm looking for, although I'll use them in the program. One of them has a peacomb, so should be useful and the other three hopefully will produce some more of the type I'm looking for. The two pictured are also peacombed.

If I should decide to go with the blue egg on these, what color Ameraucana could be used to help the color along? Buff? Any ideals would be great.

No! They need both! Rooster - red, pullet - buff.

They don't have any yellow legs!

I agree and Amalia they are gorgeous birds. I might have to buy some eggs from you in May/June when I move and have the coop built.

Does anyone here have silkied Ameraucanas?

Saw it mentioned either in here or another thread. That would be so cool. I just might take on that project in spring

Okay, that link doesn't show anything on Ameraucanas period. You sure this isn't just an (hoax) advertisement to get people on that site?

Chestnut is a color on a red enhanced bird.... I think they are making that up to sell a few birds
