Ameraucana question...

I have a trio of pure Blue Ameraucanas and I have been tossing around the idea of putting my 2 EEs and my Wheaten Ameraucana in with the trio. Both for some new chick colors and also to give my two blue girls a bit of a break.

I would like to get some blue EEs if possible, but I am mostly wondering what color combo will come of the Blue Amer. Roo with the Wheaten Amer. hen? Will I get both Blue and Wheaten offspring, Blue Wheaten, or some other color combo?

Hopefully someone who has had a mixed pen of the Blue and Wheaten Varieties of Ameraucana will chime in and tell you what colors came of the cross. Without doing it or consulting a genetics
calculator I am just going to guess you will get EE chicks that are blue, blue with some red or buff coloring, wheaten, and maybe black or black with some shade of red as Wheatens are black based.
They will be the cutest EE's anyway out there, with their lil muffs and beards!
Blue Wheaten is a separate Variety and you dont get Blue Wheaten by crossing Blue and Wheaten. Even if the chicks from crossing these two Varieties have a visual color, they still wont be pure representations of either Variety for the next generation.

Hmmm, ok. So a Blue Ameraucana and a Wheaten Ameraucana will just give me off color EEs. Just want to make sure I don't call the chicks Ameraucanas, if they will just be considered EEs.

I might give it a try for a couple months, just to see what all the chicks will look like.

Technically. You could call them Non Standard Ameraucanas, or Ameraucanas from a mixed pen for resale..or just EE's since you will have blue egg layers. I just wanted to clarify you couldnt show the offspring at the Farm Show and they wouldnt be considered purebred since they wont breed back to the original color. BluexWheaten F1 say just for example gives you a Blue chick(hiding Wheaten genetics),x with another Blue F2 wouldnt give you all Blue Black or Splash chicks, odds are some of the Wheaten will show up and therefore not make them purebred breeding true.
You just have to get another Rooster (0: Always what we wanna here, eh?
