Ameraucana questions.

What's the opinion on Cackle Hatchery's Ameraucanas? Are they the real deal? I sure hope so, I just spent something like $27 per chick for a bunch of them. I've had my heart set on having true Ameraucanas for quite a while. I realize what I have is "hatchery quality" birds and probably not what I would get from a reputable breeder, but it's a start. And I'm reasonably certain they are not EE. They are all black. And the two cockerels are, to my eye at least, breathtaking.

Let me know how that works out because I’m contemplating getting some from there as well

They are 4 months old now. Not sure what I can tell you. Like I said, I have an inexperienced eye. I'm hoping others can tell ME what they think! I mean I can't really speak as to their quality or how close they may be to the SOP. Unfortunately.

I've noticed a lot of hatcheries are just making up a name and selling chicks. Some are half breeds which will be vigorous but not breed true. It's extremely hard to get buff, wheaten and brown red ameraucanas now. So many people are breeding project colors and BBS genetics were so popular other types became rare. I think the popularity of the breed is also its downfall. It's taking me quite some time to rebuild my flock after a couple of disasters. Getting one quality Blue Wheaten roo was a couple year struggle. EE are fabulous birds for those who want variety in their flock and eggs, but the hatcheries have done a disservice to the ameraucana breed selling "americanas" when they are really Easter Eggers. Post pictures of what you have and I can tell you if they meet the standard.

These are the true ameraucana colors:
Black, Blue, Blue Wheaten, Brown Red, Buff, Self Blue , Silver, Splash, Wheaten & White
Muffs, beards, pea combs, right colored legs and body shape are considerations as well.

Pics?

I believe any blue Egger crossed with a brown Egger yields an olive Egger. Obviously some are much darker than others. Easter Eggers will lay light blue or green eggs.
There’s a difference there is olive and Easter they are not the same thing
