Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

And that's exactly what I want them for. I would like some nice blue eggs to add to the basket.

I figure I'll hatch in the spring some from the trio that is bearded, but Delawares are my main breed.

Ok back on topic.
I have 11 BBS ameraucana now. I really intended to start with Wheatens but it just didn't seem to happen for me yet.
I really love the blues too so I guess things worked out for the best.
I love the way Lisa (Dipsy Doodle Doo) marks her eggs and tells me what the numbers and letters mean. So I know which of her pens the eggs came from and what is in each pen. Here is what I have to start my flock in Hawaii.
I have 6 black chicks from two different pens. 4 splash from a splash pen. And 1 blue from another pen. So I figure I am starting out with genetics from 4 different roosters and various mommas. I think I can make a bunch of blue babies next year! I just gotta keep track of who is who. I have leg bands for adults with numbers on them that I will use. I suppose I do not have too many babies yet to keep track of. But it could get complicated one day. When I used to raise Budgies we would use closed bands that you could only slide over the feet when babies were tiny. And they wore that band their whole life. We had our own bands made and sent to us from England with our info etc. How does one keep track of chicks? I have read about zip ties but then how do you number them?

edited to add:
Those are Naked Neck Frizzle Green-Eggers (at least they have a 50% chance to be frizzled). Looks like 2 are fibromelanotic (black skinned).
edit again:
I use colored plastic twist tie (think bread ties) and / or toe punch to mark chicks.

I'm hoping to get some eggs from Dipsy Doodle Doo this spring. Definately some BBS Ameracaunas, I may let her add some of the frizzles too. I definately want to see how her chicks grow out.

Dipsy~ Don't you have Frizzled Ameracaunas too?

Hi Kelly! I breed frizzled blue/splash, pea combed, slate leg, bearded/muffed, blue/green-eggers I call *Frizz-'Aucanas*. They are bred to Ameraucana standards, but I wouldn't 'wrisk the wrath' of the Ameraucana Breeders Association (of which I am a member), by calling them Frizzled Ameraucana.
They are what they are. Danged CUTE!
