Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Blue can vary from light to dark/almost black. Anything in the spectrum is acceptable. The trick with Blue Ameraucanas is they don't have the dark blue lacing on their feathers that they should have. That is something to be improved upon with that color.

And definitely post pics!

Congratulations Clare!!!
That is fabulous especially after all that work that goes into your birds!!!

Thanks Miriam, he's a bit young, but I hatched late this year not anticipating the state Ameraucana meet. For giggles, I also had a Lavender and a Mottled pullet entered in AOV.

I'll have to get current pics. DH was in a hurry packing birds on Sunday and I didn't get pics of everybody.

Have you been able to get them to retain their mottling? How about leg color? I am having the hardest time with mottling in my orps- it just vanishes at about 3 or 4 months

They have quite a bit of mottling, maybe too much for young birds since it will increase next year when they molt.

The leg color in the pullets varies from mostly to 50/50. It is poor in the cockerels. The will require work, but those who have lavs are familiar with that concept. Size and type are decent, at least in the ones I have.

Cool- can't wait to see them! Are you doing lav mottled as well? I am wondering if there will be enough contrast there. I am setting lav cuckoos soon.

As long as the girls keep laying, anyway.
