Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

It appears to be gold leakage- the wing is one of those places it like to show up. I would not use him as a breeder. You should test breed any sisters as well- they could be carrying it and not show it. Beautiful barnvelders you have!

Thank you!!! That is exactly the feedback I need. I'm sorting out what I will be running with. The blue girls I have are all from differing breeders/bloodlines so that will work out fine. I'll let this boy go to someone who just wants an unusual cock to look at or is only interested in producing EEs. He came from a lovely blue egg. Looking down at him from above, he is one half light and one half dark - like a checkerboard. I was really liking him until I saw those straw feathers.

I have a couple of nice blues and a black to use.

And thanks so much on the Barnies. They are not my breeding, I bought hatching eggs from good breeders.

Thanks for all the replies. It appears that the mottled Ameraucana project birds mentioned over on ABC are black with white? Could not find any pics after searching there. The shape of the black spots on the brabanter seem to be closest to my hen's (love the crest too!). Will try posting somewhere else for more info on genetics, but would still love to see any pics of heavy black spots/speckles/spangles/mottling/etc on wheaten Ams. Thanks.

I'm gonna have to steal that name! I've got a VERY young Black cockerel currently growing up and he is just a wee bit of a stinker so Diablo is PERFECT!

Thanks for sharing!!!!!
