Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hey guys! Soooo happy I found this thread! After researching breeds over the last year or so, I singled out the Americauna as my breed of choice.

I started out looking at the big hatcheries (including Cackle), and like one of the previous posters, thought EEs and Americaunas were the same thing at first too. I started doing more indepth 'net research on a few breeds, which is how I came across the reccomended Americauna.org, and learned the truth about easter eggers and the hatcheries' "ploys" to make sales by confusing us greenhorns.

Also through americauna.org I located a mom & pop type hatchery fairly close to me that raises blue, black, splashes and lavenders. They sell hatching eggs, chicks, and older birds. I havn't decided yet whether I want to get chicks and raise them myself (for pet bonding purposes) or get them at a few months old (to speed things on a bit). I'm very excited to have found these guys, too. :)

Welcome! Your story sounds kinda like mine. I have a small flock of them now and love these birds. Just a note... It is spelled Ameraucana.

There is no "i" in the word.

Random thought, what is the proper pluralization of Ameraucana? It seems like one of those words that could be both singular and plural (like fish) or could be pluralized by placing an "s" at the end of it. I feel like I've seen it pluralized both ways, but maybe I'm wrong. Just a random thought brought on by being home sick today I guess.

Your thoughts on whether to keep or rehome my Wheaten Ameraucana. I believe a roo, now 5 weeks, 2 days old. I am looking at leg color being so light, rather than slate.
