Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Ok so I'm going to give this guy up free to anyone who would like him.

I believe he is pure Ameraucana BUT there is a chance he is a olive egger.....

He has some light (you really really have to look for it) leakage of brownish in the hackles
Otherwise I think he has great qualities and would make a great rooster to have.
I handle him every day, he does not like being held but will perch on my arm/hand/shoulder with out issue.
He is the omega in my flock so gets picked on a lot and has a small limp from being chased off the roost and landing hard the wrong way.

Let me know if your interested.... I have to cull him soon! (too many roosters!)

Your thoughts on whether to keep or rehome my Wheaten Ameraucana. I believe a roo, now 5 weeks, 2 days old. I am looking at leg color being so light, rather than slate.

Definitely a cockerel. Definitely a Wheaten. And his leg color will definitely dark as he gets older. He's still way too young to tell what he'll turn out like. Best keep him and find out!

Btw, welcome to the WBS variety. So glad to see someone else with them. I hope you'll stick with them and make the commitment to helping us get them where they should be!

God Bless,

Very pretty bird!

I thought your challenge with the Choc. Am. was going to me leg color? Is it the pics or just me....but they look like a darker shade of slate?????

Curious minds want to know

Here's that first chocolate ameraucana project chick almost all grown up.

God Bless,
So far, he is my only Wheaten. From good lines, so I hope to hatch some pretty girls for him this spring. Thank you for your reply, Tailfeathers.

Keep an eye on his heard- he looks like he's clean-faced or only carrying one gene. If he does end up bearded, don't breed him to his sisters. (just noticed
he doesn't have any sisters)

Morning, Amy. I did not have a very successful hatch and he was my only survivor. Did much better with the Blue Rocks in the same hatch. So before I can consider breeding, I will need to hatch some girls for him.

GA_IN_GA I'm going to snag your pictures for just a moment, thank you in advance.....

Anyone who has bred LF Ameraucana for some length of time.......

Is this male chick at 5 weeks, 2 days old exhibiting typical TAIL feather growth you would normally see in a fast, hard-feathered male offspring of good parents? Does anyone have similar pictures of fast feather male chicks around the same age or possibly younger? It's hard for me to tell without putting my hands on this bird, but am I seeing about 2 1/2 inches of tail primary feather growth in this picture? Or is that the fluffy surrounding feathers that I'm seeing?

If all Ameraucana are fast feathered birds, typically, this should be an easy answer for anyone who has some experience. Thanks in advance for any input.

And if there is someone on this thread who has experience with show quality barred rocks and using K to improve the barring pattern, I would like to speak to you also to talk about feather growth of KK, Kk, and K- birds. PM will be fine and thanks.

Cindy, I hatched only two split chicks from eggs I got from you last May (only one W from eggs I got from Mahonri), Pictured at 4 weeks are the two Lav/blk splits and one Wheaten (along w/ two Icelandic chicks). The pic isn't the best but you can see that one of the splits has more body feathers and bigger tail feathers than the other. I thought I had a pair because of the feathering difference of the two split chicks, but both ended up being males. Of course, the W is a male....struck out on getting any blue egg layers........
