Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

LF chocolates hatched yesterday. Pics to follow later this evening.

After the power lines down for hours fiasco, I ended up with a decent hatch. They were a little late, and the hatching took longer than normal, but they DID hatch! Unbelieveable.

how many did you get? That is great... I was thinking about that the other day and wanted to know what happened.

Woohoo! Just had to share with someone! Let me tell the story...

My husband and I finished our breeding pens not too long ago. Here is the pic when it was almost done. (nest boxes, roosts, feed and water facilities and chickens added since....lol)

Of course when you start a project like this you imagine it is all you will ever need... it never is.
I have had a crazy surplus of roosters (who doesn't?) I got rid of 6 ameraucana cockerels via craigslist but still had 3 more than I wanted so we...processed them. Well the ones we butchered were not ameraucana, but anyway, VERY intense. My husband was so happy with how much more quiet it was in the back yard.
Now I only have 2 ameraucana grown up boys but I have 15 little marans cockerels that are gonna start making a ton of noise in the next few months.

So to make a short story as long as possible....
My husband all by himself suggested that in the future we will build more breeding pens further away from the house, and keep the existing pens for layers or baby grow out pens. !!! All by himself he suggested that! I was afraid to even mention to him that I might need more pens one day. Could it be? Has chicken fever really taken ahold of him too? Or does he just want a happy wife? Either way it works for me! lol
Just had to share that with people that understand. Most people think I am totally bonkers!
