Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I'm hoping the wing feathers aren't any indication on my wheaten chicks. If so - I have 6 boys and 2 girls

Going to wait a few more weeks before I completely freak out though

Here are my kids this morning. They are downstairs so no natural light and lots of heat lamps so the colors are not the best and the flash actually made them fall over..such chickens

Silver's both have girly legs

Here is the Splash..undecided legs are quite thick but not as trunky as the blue and black they have some shape also not as large overall so hopefully pullet-I need a few girls!

My little Buff..the small one of all..for the size it has big legs so guess I may have the roo to my 1 buff hen? Time will tell all

Holly- do your wheatens have different colored wing feathers coming in? I have 6 dark, and 2 light. Don't know if that's an indication of wheaten vs blue wheaten or boy vs girl. I'll have to check the legs more closely and take more pics.

Can anybody tell me if pullets can fill out in the beard later on? I have 2 girls that are practically beardless at almost 4 months.

We have 2 dark and 1 light on the Wheatens..I need to get some pics of my older ones my boy crowed for the first time this morning...sounded like a sick bull frog but we lost so many chickens this week it was a good laugh...no matter how late and how tired always count the chickens in the pens before locking the doors..I do have quite a collection of dead coons and opossum's this morning for revenge

Yes, that's exactly what is supposed to happen! I worked as a courier for awhile and, unfortunately, most of the airline personnel are not trained in shipping protocol! The gal at United Airlines told me that no one has ever given her any training on shipping procedures (we shipped cord blood and lab animals through them). She said she had to figure it out for herself and she was the only one in the department that knew how to do it! It's pretty bad when the only person in the entire department that knows how to handle shipments is doing it on guesswork!!! You'd think that as much money as they charge for shipping they'd spend a little time training their personnel.

We had much better luck with Southwest.

Thank you Jean and Cherry for hanging on tight with this nutty embargo. They are supposed to be shipped out the next flight, not sent them back.

My post office did that to me a few years ago with EE's being shipped to IN, saying that they could not ship them out at all. I thought it was a load of crap, so I went to Bloomington, IL and shipped those babies out and no problems there. I went back to the PO as soon as I found out that the EEs were at their new home and no problems, the employees there were like dumbfounded and replied that they didn't know if it was possible to ship any birds out of Illinois.

I had to contact the Postal Ispector of Illinois, a good friend of mine, he said they ARE supposed to ship chicks, birds and eggs out REGARDLESS what they are trying to avoid shipping birds out and you had a date with the FedEX flight times going out to MtZion airport. From then on, it was off and on and I finally had enough of their excuses, so I mentioned my friends name and they all scrambled to get the birds shipped LOL!

From then on, anyone gives me a hard time about shipping anything related to chickens, just mentioned his name, and they WILL do it! Funny how that works!

OK- here's some pics- last time I hatched they were all the same color. This is really throwing me off

A dark one:

A light one:

An obvious roo (darker color too)- just going by size:

The 2 light ones are on the smaller side. Except for the big one above, all the other dark ones seem to be the same size.
Any thoughts?

Wow, I am so sorry, that is heartbreaking. You have beautiful babies. I hope in time they bring you much joy.

Thanks..Normally I know who's in and who's missing but we had just moved several pens around and I didn't notice my best leghorn hadn't gone home..the roo was only good for hen watching so I didn't loose anything real valuable there but with so much land and only 1 real good protector out there now...Hazards of living in the Country and right on a very big river but still sucks

Gotta get more Ameraucana chicks still on the hunt..silvers where art thou? I'm actually selling off several of my keepers just to make more Ameraucana space..thanks to a BYC member that "gave" me a hen
