Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I know black legs are acceptable in black birds. Is it bad on a blue? I have a black, dark blue, and light blue that are about 4 months. I was looking at them the other day and the blues have legs that are so dark they look more black than slate.

That picture looks over exposed so I can't tell much.  I don't think they look like mine.

This is a very ratty looking wheaten pullet, very young just after I got them.  I don't have any good pics of them.  I never really have taken any.  See the black in the tail and on the wings?  Do your birds have that?

Thank you for pointing this out. Sadly, they do not, so apparently what i have are some very cute EEs. When i really compare those two to my little pullet (same provenance as my roo), i start to see the differences.

I don't think it hurts them. It's just unattractive and is probably less than ideal from an evolutionary/survival of the fittest point of view because they do seem to be less solid on their feet. They're kind of wobbly because their stance isn't square. If you are just looking for layer birds you could probably keep them but as a breeder you would want to avoid them, I should think. I know I will.

I have noticed that all four birds like this seem a little "wobbly" and the pullets are really narrow overall. I won't be breeding them. The Silvers are sturdy, larger and more robust in appearance. One of the pullets even likes to fly! Little brat!
I will not breed them, I have no desire to pass this on, and I don't think it was a dietary deficiency.
Thank you for the help, I appreciate it.

I hatched out three Ameraucana babies a couple days ago. Is one blue and one black or..are they both blue and one is just darker blue?

I think they are both blue. My blues seem to come in many shades of chick down but even up once they feather in. I have one right now that has/had darker down that is feathering in a sort of smokey or charcoal black which I'm thinking is probably a dark blue bird and not really black at all. It doesn't look black like the blacks, at any rate, and it has the slate legs. I'm curious to see how this one grows out.
